Tying Up Loose Ends in Darwin

Yesterday wasn’t quite so frantic as the day before. Or was it…?

I left the house at about 7am, with Rohan and Liza. Rohan dropped Liza off at the hospital and then went on to work, in Palmerston, a sort of satellite city, south of Darwin. Seeing as i’d failed to hire a ute the day before, i was going to borrow his car to shift my stuff.

From Palmerston, i drove to the Perkins Shipping wharf at Frances Bay - which is the port right next to Darwin city. After a bit of driving around on their wharf, i eventually found where to pick my boxes up. The were all there - and all intact. From there to the storage shed is only a couple of hundred metres, which is nice and handy. … Read more »

The Buildup In Darwin

The frantic pace of the last week or so doesn’t seem to have slowed down much since i left Maningrida. I seem to have been running around non-stop since i got to Darwin, too.

But, here, i’ve been doing most of the running around on my bicycle - which is much better than driving around in a car, with deranged dogs running alongside, barking and trying to bite the wheels! :-?

I’ve certainly been catching up with some of the exercise i haven’t been able to get while i’ve been in maddogsville. But i’m exhausted from it all! … Read more »

Full Moon In Arnhem Land

Yesterday was insanely hectic again. I didn’t stop frantically running around all day - well, up till about four o’clock, anyway. The moon was full at twenty past two yesterday afternoon, and its passing pretty much corresponded with my stress levels.

The moon was in Taurus - whatever that means. And it was in just about exactly the same position in the sky as the sun was when i was born (i.e., conjunct my natal sun, for the astro-nerds), for what that’s worth… ;-)

I still had plenty of stuff kicking around the house when i woke up at about five o’clock that morning. :-? I packed all my clothes, etc, into the two bags they arrived there in. And i put a bit of washing on, which i hung out to dry before i went to work. … Read more »

Done - Well, Sort Of!

I made it! Just about. Well, more or less, anyway…  :-?

I went down to the Maningrida barge landing and made sure they’d take my stuff and found out how long i had. The bloke said about an hour. Phew. Then i raced up to the council office and hunted around some places i hadn’t hunted last night. Fortunately, i turned up a roll of packing tape - but there wasn’t much left on it. I also grabbed a roll of fairly skinny sticky tape - which was a bit wider than the ones i found last night.

Then, back at home, i had to make a box from another, much bigger box - because the remaining things i had to pack were too big to fit in any boxes i’d found. I was glad i had the packing tape, because it was really thick cardboard and it would have been next to impossible with the other tape. It didn’t quite stretch to finishing it though, and i had to wrap a couple of dimensions of the box round and round and round and round with the skinny tape. It was a bodgy box, but it was a box. … Read more »

Moving House Nightmare

Well, it was my own fault, i suppose. But i didn’t enjoy yesterday evening one little bit! That’s what you get when you put things off to the last possible moment, though…

I had been planning to skive off work for a few hours and do my packing, but somehow i never got the chance. I was hoping a guy i work with would be driving from Maningrida into Darwin tomorrow and could take my stuff, so i could put off packing for an extra day! But it looks like he’s not going to now - which i didn’t know for sure until yesterday evening. So i’ve got no real choice other than to put all the rest of my stuff on the barge this morning - which meant packing it all up last night after work. … Read more »
